In 2010, Paula abandoned a successful career as a singer-songwriter in Brazil, where she was a Universal Music artist with a couple of number one hits, to do a graduate program in philosophy in the U.S. Since then she has been recording and releasing her songs independently. Her music comes from the same impulse that made her fall in love with philosophy: "I want to understand the world and myself. I want to know what love is and why I am alive. I want to experience and feel everything. Above all, I want to create." Fellow Shade is the first album she conceived and recorded alone, on the thirteenth floor of an apartment building in Baltimore, during the winter break for the Ph.D. program in philosophy she is now finishing.
